The Gulf of America (GOA) province, despite being one of the most intensely explored regions of the world, continues to yield new exploration plays with major hydrocarbon discoveries. As technology has progressed over the years, exploration companies have extended drilling and production further from shore, and into deeper waters. The below statistics are limited to 2000’ to 4000’ of water.

STUDY CONFIRMATION

The Deep Water Play provided Pilot Exploration the opportunity to conduct a study and confirm using SRM-MBS (See Pilot’s digital deck at this link) in a large basin environment with minimal exploration drilling.

A cesium vapor aerial magnetic survey was acquired from 1986-1992, preceding most of the drilling in the Deep Water Play. Consequently, any possible oil field infrastructure interference was absent. The survey consists of an area covering over 24,000,000 acres, located in the “Flexure Trend Gulf of America.” (See full report at this link)

After eliminating any anomalous data due to cultural or geological interference, the 2008 study concentrated on 132 MBS anomalies. The result: 119 MBS new field discoveries – a 90% success rate. Pilot continues to monitor the drilling activity in the GOA, resulting in refining and advancing the technology processing workflow.

PREDICTION

The Bullwinkle Field is an excellent example of using the technology for exploration – the 1st field discovery in the Mini Basin trend. The Bullwinkle area only had four (4) test wells drilled prior to the time of the acquisition of the magnetic survey data in 1986.

VERIFICATION

The Bullwinkle field consists of 15 productive wells – 160mm boe reserves – peak production 75,000 bopd
